The RoboUtes are going to the Mars Analog Field at Johnson Space Center for RASC-AL ROBO-OPS
!
The RoboUtes are a group of passionate students interested in robotics and engineering. They participate in robotic competitions locally and throughout the nation and have formed a multidisciplinary engineering student group at the University of Utah to introduce more people to the exciting field of robotics engineering.
The currently, the RoboUtes are working on the NASA/NIA RASCAL Rover competition, held at Johnson Space Center. The competition involves designing and building a Mars rover to collect rock samples. Our rover will compete against other national universities’ rovers this May/June. The competition requires that the rover is tele-operated from the University of Utah campus. The major design highlights include our unique and novel spine chassis design, and our custom built sample collecting arm, using an innovative Bowden cable tendon system.
The RoboUtes are extremely proud of their involvement in the local community. As a group they have planned, supported, and volunteered at a variety of events and projects. These events foster a positive outlook on engineering and a real-world insight into the experiences of engineering students.
Last year, the RoboUtes took second place in the Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) Exploration Robo-Ops Competition, winning $4000 with the rover we built to traverse rock fields, sand dunes, and lunar craters.
The RoboUtes have uploaded video to YouTube, subscribe to the team channel and keep up with our progress.
One component of the competition is public involvement, Like and follow us on facebook to help the RoboUtes.
